Once upon a time there lived a girl named Rose. By any other name she would be any other girl, right? Shakespeare's wrong. Rose didn't meet him, that was someone else, but she believes. Her name is Rose and this is important information ( Read more... )

The Doctor hit the side of the communication system. He needed to get a better layout of the base. Where was everyone? He'd run into two people so far, but where was the crew? Where were the people who were supposed to be dying on this base?

He slipped on his glasses and smacked the side of the camera. He appeared on a screen in the middle of a random hallway.

"Hello? Anyone there?" No? He punched a few buttons and appeared on another. "Hello?"

She'd have known that voice anywhere.

"Doctor!" She spun around, looking. Not there. Another spin. No, she was alone. But she would know that voice -- Oh! Voice!

Another spin and yes, there, a screen.

"Doctor!" Oh. Button. Bugger this, entirely.

Gritting her teeth, Rose hit the button and smiled. Third time's the charm.

"Doctor!"

The Doctor was about to switch to another screen, when suddenly the screen filled with a very familiar face. He froze.

Rose? But---but that was impossible. She couldn't---how could she? How could she be here, on Bowie Base One? Well, how could the Master be here, either, he should've been used to the idea of running into the impossible here.

"Hello," he said, finding himself breaking into a wide grin. He should've said more, but he had absolutely no idea where to begin.

"Hello!" And she had no idea what to say, either. "Fancy meeting you here." Wherever here was. "Wherever here is!"

She put a hand to either side of the screen and imagined he were right here and she was touching him. "Where is here?"

Not that it mattered.

Jenny wasn't trying to find the Doctor. Jenny had found Jack!

Not her ship, though. Despite having a brilliant time running around the station with Jack, the two decided it'd really make more sense to split up and cover more ground. Jenny couldn't argue; it was tactically sound and the two of them were well-trained and could take care of themselves. And he'd even given her an ear-do-dad that she'd sonicked a bit so they could communicate through the computer systems of the base.

Now Jenny was looking around. Not just for her ship, but for any clues about why they were where (and when!) they were.

And maybe for some other person, too.

And then she saw a short blonde woman, and she smiled. "Hullo!" She jogged up to the woman. "Hi. I'm Jenny. Did you just come here in an odd fashion from somewhere else?"

Rose was not unused to such encounters at this point. All part of the deal and frankly, persons were welcome when you have found yourself pulled somewhere in an odd fashion. Nobody wants to be alone!

Well, probably someone wants to be alone. Or thinks they want to be alone. Thinks she or he or whatever wants -- this was not important.

She gave the girl a small, friendly enough smile and wave. "Rose. Yah."

"Rose?" Sounds oddly familiar, but she wasn't sure why. But! Jenny wasn't one to dwell. "You're the first person I've met since Jack. We've split up to look for my ship, but the base is a bit bigger than he thinks it ought to be. I didn't know the base 'til I got here, because it's been long gone as far as I knew."

Adelaide Brooke had been one of Jenny's heroes, once Jenny had read about her. "Have you found anyone else yet?"

"Jack Harkness?" Rose's eyes perked up at the idea; Jack is hardly an uncommon name but these were hardly common circumstances. Jack on board made sense. In the Jack way.

"I've talked to the Doctor on a screen, we're working out how to figure a meet-up." Rose's funny turn of phrase always did get funnier as she got excited. She assumed Jenny would know exactly who she meant if she knew Jack and if she was here. It made sense. In the Rose way.
