Goodby, Farewell, Amen...

Yesterday was an odd day, and almost certainly the most unique funeral I will ever attend. I could only aspire to a fraction of the outpouring of love that was on show.

For a day that was to share a great loss to our community it was punctuated by more than it's fair share of laughter.

Firstly that with 200 geeks in attendance, they had to move chapels on us because we couldn't get the AV system working.

The blood red hearse was a nice touch, the decorated coffin was awesome in a very litteral sense.

Rev Costello did an exceptional job in summing up why Avaline was so special and his presence gave much comfort to her mother.

The eulogies we closer to stand up comedy routines, especially Halo's eulogy to Avaline's cleavage. It was a little disturbing how often world domination and mass random poisonings came up, but a girl's gotta dream.

The wake was what you expect if organised by a bunch of goths who are club promoters. There was lots of drinks that glowed under the UV lights. A St. Andrew's Cross and some floggings later in the evening. Possibly the highlight of my evening was seeing Jenny doing heavy metal morris dancing. No, really, that's what it was.

To round the day out we also visited a friend to meet their new born and were invited to a wedding.

The one sour note for the day was having something in my left calf go pop during the evening and I had to get someone to drive me home because I couldn't walk. It's greatly improved today - I can put weight on it, but not push off or pivot on that leg yet.

If anything, yesterday reminded me that life is too short, and that this year we really need to make an effort to see more of you wonderful people, and not let time pass before basking in all your glory.

We know a multitude of amazing people, we may have lost the brightest of them this week, but we should revel in those of us still here.
