AusPolitics - thank you Julia

I rarely write or even discuss politics, but I have to admit I am disappointed that the Labour caucus saw fit to reelect Kevin Rudd, a man they dumped 3 years ago because he couldn't keep his ego under control. I kinda wish that if they were going to depose Gillard, they would have the sense to put another candidate in her place.

I'm not sure if ( Read more... )

Well said. I think Gillard was an excellent politician regardless of whether I agreed with her opinions or not. She's intelligent, articulate and her ability to negotiate a minority government all while being treated like crap by the opposition, the media and her own party was amazing. She carried herself well and with dignity despite the distinct lack of respect shown to her and her position and I wish there were more politicians with her grace and eloquence.

They ditched the one who made extraordinary things happen while fighting a hung parliament, for the one who couldn't get a carbon tax through when he had the majority.

I found it hugely ironic that both Rudd and Abbott were wearing 'blue ties' today.

That's a good summation. I haven't had the energy to comment on the lastest turn of events myself, but I am terribly disappointed at the gender Catch 22. Julia should *not* have been replaced in so far as her record of achievements shows that she is the better leader, but if she had gone to the polls a certain amount of the vote against her would have been gender based, so ... she has been dumped anyway, so that Labor can go to the polls with the now-popular (male) K Rudd. She was in a lose lose situation in the end. :(

I don't entirely disagree with anything you said but consider that Rudd was knifed by factions conspiring with Gillard, because he proposed taxing the richest people in Australia and the factions were afraid of the heat that those people generated. This was essentially payback by Rudd which seems fair enough ( ... )
