Rant against batteries

Lately batteries have been a cause of annoyance in my life.  I got an eye pawed nan oh for Xmas. It took me months to get around to having all my music digitized (ripped all my CDs) and then onto the iPod, and then I sync'd the thing. Until Xmas I'd been using an inexpensive em pee three player, which I purchased with a hard-earned mall gift ( Read more... )

I don't know about ipods, but my Zune doesn't actually turn off when the screen goes dark and it isn't playing music. It just goes to a low-power mode. Note, that's not a no-power mode. There is a way to actually turn it off (requires multiple button pushes and some fairy dust), but it is not in the manual. I found out about it in an online forum discussion. So I can make my battery last if I wanted to. I leave it in a charging dock attached to my stereo system 99% of the time anyway, but...Check around on forums to see if there's a way to actually turn your ipod off to save battery life. Good luck!

PS, LOL re: the Apple Experience! I've spent an awful lot of time at The Store lately (not by choice) and I know exactly what you mean! Apple=Alliance as far as I'm concerned, and I'm proud to be a Browncoat!

In my attempt (ha!) at brevity I failed to include the part about having learned my lesson a few months in, with regard to turning the device off. I realized that even when i had turned it 'off' (as off as it gets with such things) I hadn't locked the touchpad/control, and it was probably getting triggered i.e. turned on just hitting stuff in my bag (inside it's little fleece pouch). The other thing is that it's a lithium ion battery, I think, and they naturally lose power just whenever they're not plugged in, even if the device is 'off.' Which seems like a bum deal to me, but I guess there are tradeoffs. Probably it's the only battery that can be small enough to fit within the slim device, and the sleek trimness is part of the Experience, right?

So Steve Jobs tells us anyway! And if Steve says it is so, well, then it must be so!
