Tutorial 1: for PSP7 (I think it can also be used for PS)

from this pic

Tutorial for PSP 7

This Tutorial show you how I made icon on the left, from this picture. If you have any problems with the tutorial, or if it was helpful, please comment... I'm using a german version of psp7,
I try my best to translate it to English, but I don't always know the right terms for everything... so I'm sorry about that.

Step 1

cut out the piece you want to use for the background and position it like you want. Then duplicate the background twice and set the one nearest to the background to soft light 100% and the other to screen 100%. You can merge all three layer together and you got your background.

Step 2

To get the backgroung black and white make a new layer and flood it with black #000000 set the layer to color 100%

Step 3

The background is still too strong, dark... add a new adjustment layer.

new adjustment layer --> brightness/contrast
Setting are:
brightness = 80 / contrast = -66
opacity 100%

Step 4

creat a new layer and add the crossthing brush. Set layer to
darken 26%
(darken when you use a white background in this layer, otherwise
you can use normal 26%)
this is our finished background.

Step 5

now we work on the pic we want as the foreground of the icon. duplicate this layer twice and set the one nearest to the first to soft light 100% and the other to screen 100%. (the same way we did with the background) (if you feel like it you can merge the three layer of the foreground pic together)

Step 6

now creat a new layer and use a brush to make a nice border around the foreground pic (I used around 4 different brushes to get to the one on the left)
now you only have to add a text and that's it (I used tahoma 5pt #000000 )
