How many online friends do I have that actually live in the U.S.? I never thought of this until tonight. I participated in the 'Students for Obama' gathering tonight to watch his speech accepting the nomination for presidential candidacy. That was fun. I got a couple signs and stickers ( Read more... )

Gomen ne, watashi wa Australian desu~

Hee, seriously though, when does the voting actually happen? Seems like the campaign thing has been going on FOREVER.

I have a couple of American friends online and they all got talking about it when the candidates were first offically announced or something (I don't know much about the way it all works) but that was months and months ago. How long does it take??

Ooo, Australia sounds like such a exotic place to me. I'd love to go there one day.

The election is actually at November fourth. The campaign thing does take forever. There's a lot of people who want to be president and in the end it can only be narrowed down to two. Then later on one. I don't know too much about the process, but it's complicated. XD But I'm pretty sure they start thinking about this stuff during the current president's last one to two years in the office.

I actually have no idea what the government system in Australia is like. I'm terrible. =(

Well the beaches might be exotic but I don't really like beaches. I live in plain old suburbia. So it's not so much exotic as it is warm. (It's the last week of winter here and I'm already feeling the heat :D)

We belong to Queen Elizabeth (aka Lizzie to us irrevernt Aussies :P). We share a monarchy with England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, New Zealand and South Africa. But we have our own government and we vote on a new Prime Minister every 4years. You don't enroll to vote, you just do it and if you don't, they fine you.

There are no big campaigns either. They just tell us what they intend to do while in office and we pick between the main teams. The leader of the team gets to be Prime Minister. But members of the other team will get seats in government (depending on the votes) so they can have their say too. At least I think that's how it all works; never pay too much attention to it.

OMG, I'm so happy I just learned this stuff. Must show off my Australian government knowledge eventually. =)

Fined if you fail to vote huh? We're allowed to choose whether or not we want to vote, but I think it would be stupid not to. It's really the easiest way for the citizens to change the officials in the government.

I never really pay attention to how things work in the government. I always just assume I know until someone else asks me about it. >

Ooooo, naughty!

My roommate is from America, but a different state. And she didn't actually register to vote so in the end she can't do anything in the end anyways. Although she never said who she supports.

Yay for you!!!! I'm glad that he's international as well. As a president should be.

I can't post there yet... it's nervewrecking. =P
