Same kind of thing as the Maru birthday drabbles but now it's Maki/everyone! And instead of being based on gifts like the last batch it's based on date locations. I had a lot more planned but I had a very busy weekend so I'll post more eventually! Enjoy!
Beach Maki/Yamapi
She refused to sit on his jacket. She was the one who forgot to bring the blanket to the beach, so she was perfectly content with being the one sprinkled with the debris on the ground. Maki closed her eyes and allowed her hands to dip into the cool sand as she listened to the waves crash to the shore and the quiet sound of Yamapi humming quietly to himself.
“It’s getting chilly out. Take my jacket to cover yourself at least,” he broke the comfortable silence and Maki forced herself to open her eyes. “You can’t get a cold on your birthday. What kind of boyfriend would I be?”
“One with a very happy girlfriend for the beautiful date,” Maki allowed herself to be covered by his heavy jacket as the salty and cold breeze brushed against her bare arms. Autumn was such a beautiful season at a price. She huffed as she saw him rub warmth into his arms. Scooting closer to him she wrapped his oversized jacket over both of their shoulders. Yamapi sent her a gentle smile and she couldn’t help but kiss the corner of his mouth.
They were both so considerate yet so stubborn. Maki rested her head on his shoulder as he leaned into her. With hands clasped together, the two sat and watched as the waves of the ocean reached their feet and Maki couldn’t think of a better gift for her birthday than sharing warmth on a cool autumn day.
House of MirrorsMaki/Tegoshi
They were distorted. Their reflections stood before them, long limbs that were snaking around their sides or the shrunken figures that could be the size of Tinny. But their eyes never changed. Always large. Always curiously sneaking glances beside them.
“This is fun, huh?” Tegoshi turned to Maki and grinned. “Are you having fun on your birthday?”
Maki smiled at her reflection and chuckled at the stretched lips in front of her. “We look ridiculous. I can’t even tell if I’m looking at you or my own image.”
“Well, it’s cute regardless,” Tegoshi winked, blowing a kiss at her reflection. Did he know it was towards her or himself? Maki didn’t know if she should be annoyed or flattered.
Restaurant Maki/Massu
Maki wasn’t surprised that he took her to a restaurant. It was what they had most in common. Food. Maki enjoyed making it, bringing bentos from home to test her new recipe. Massu was more than willing to try it. Together they would whirl through different Tokyo restaurants, trying all sorts of dishes. Together they would grin and eat, making little comments along the way (‘Oh, this is delicious!’, ’I bet you could make this! And better!’). Maki wasn’t surprised that he took her to a restaurant for her birthday. She was a little surprised when he held onto her hand under the table.
Kitchen Maki/Jin
Maki stretched leisurely as she padded into the kitchen in the afternoon. It was her birthday so she got to sleep in late. She almost grinned when she saw it was almost noon. She rarely got to enjoy these occasions.
“Good afternoon sleepyhead,” a smooth voice glided though the quiet kitchen and Maki stilled at the voice. Definitely a man, not a roommate.
Maki blinked at Jin, who was sitting by himself at the table with two dishes prepared on it. It looked like they were omelets, they were too dark to tell. She was just happy she chose to wear a t-shirt and sweatpants to bed.
“Happy birthday!” Jin pointed at the seat across from him and she slowly sat down. Her brain just couldn’t function when she woke up. And she was so very confused.
“Thank you,” she studied the omelet in front of her. “How did you get in?”
“That one with the nice-”
Maki held up her hand and glared at him, nonverbally telling him to watch his words carefully.
“Well eat, I made it an hour ago. Didn’t know you were going to sleep this long,” Jin brushed his hair out of his eyes and watched as she curiously took a bite.
“It’s cold,” she commented.
“I just said I made it an hour ago.”
“And burnt.”
Jin chose to ignore that comment and handed her a red bundle of cloth. Maki was glad for a distraction from eating yet hesitantly took it when she saw the mischief swirling in his eyes. It was an apron. A red apron with giant white letters across it.
“Kiss... the... chef,” Maki read the apron carefully in English. She bit her lower lip to try to translate it.
Jin’s eyes lit up. “Don’t mind if I do,” he leaned quickly and was delighted by Maki’s soft gasp of surprised before his lips crashed again her.
He had to catch her when she woke up all the time. The quick slaps to the face when she was alert hurt.
Her Bed Maki/Maru
“I just don’t understand how I could get so sick on my birthday,” Maki repeated weakly, before loudly sneezing into the tissue Maru had handed her moments before.
Maru frowned at her and hesitantly placed his hand against her warm forehead once more. He didn’t want to continuously be touching her. He didn’t even plan on going into her apartment. But when she answered the door when he brought a bouquet of flowers for her birthday he found her in pajamas and a very bright red nose. He instantly demanded that she went back to bed, channeling Koyama’s fretfulness.
Now he was in her apartment. In her bedroom. Sitting on her bed beside her. He was so doomed.
“It just got really cold all of a sudden,” she said warily, rubbing her temple.
“I think you’re just working too hard,” Maru offered, shifting uncomfortably on her bed.
“You’re one to talk. Stage plays. School. Concerts. Television,” Maki winced and groaned. “It just won’t go away.”
“Work?”
“No. This headache. I took something for it earlier but nothing’s changed.”
“Let me,” Maru pulled her hand away gently and she allowed him to rub her temple with his long and soft fingers.
She relaxed under his touch while he just felt more and more uncomfortable. She was oblivious, melting back into her pillow. “Maybe one day I’ll have to return the favor,” her hand waved up to pat his shoulder lightly but landed on his chest instead.
Once again, she was oblivious and he was choking.
Drive-in theater Maki/Toma
The idea was cute. It really was. Toma was now starring in the stage version of ‘Grease’ and got the idea to take Maki to a drive-in theater for her birthday. It was really sweet. It’s just that Toma’s planned date wasn’t going according to his plan.
He was ten minutes late picking her up because Yamapi and Jin trashed the backseat of his car. The speaker beside their car wasn’t working. Maki already saw the movie that was playing. He spilled his drink all over her purse that was resting on the floor below them. The backseat was cramped and Maki was sitting as close to the door as she could. She wasn’t upset by any of these things. She appreciated his effort. But he was miserable.
He looked out his window mournfully, wishing that things had turned out better. Wondering why fate kept torturing him like this. Until a firm grip claimed his chin. Maki forced him to look into her eyes.
“Hey, if you’re going to be crabby on my birthday then I will be upset. I’m having a good time Toma. I’m happy to be spending this day with you,” she pressed a reassuring kiss against his lips.
He grinned into the kiss as he pulled her closer towards him. Maybe next birthday they wouldn’t go out.
