It may be that the rise of China, like the gentrification of Harlem and the imminent arrival of the killer bees, is one of those events that is forever on the cusp of happening, and which people always speak about as if it will happen tomorrow, but lo, the thing never seems to happen, or at least not to happen completely.

hahaha. i interviewed this big wig french government think tank guy/head of some french business school about this. i said that i seem to be around a lot of ppl who are like, do you think it'll really happen? will china take over the world? & that there's always someone in the room who's like, well remember all the paranoia about japan when we were young - & then nothing happened. so i asked what he thought would happen w/ china. & he was just like, the same thing, duh. ppl are frightened about the rise of a new superpower & certainly the china factor will and is currently upsetting the balance of everything, but it's not going to Take Over the World.
