For
ar_drabbles challenge 47, I see dead people. Premise: Roslin didn't airlock Leoben in Flesh and Bone.
Since
bsg_aussiegirl posted this week's challenge, Speedy gets to come out of his cage again.
Adama paced the brig like he was the one caged.
Leoben stood behind the glass, watched his every move. Back and forth, back and forth. Toward the phone and away. Finally Adama picked up the phone, but all Leoben could hear was the commander's harsh breaths.
"I held her in my arms, you know," Leoben said.
He watched the man tense.
"I whispered in her ear. Did you know how soft her hair is, Commander?"
Adama clutched the receiver tighter, his knuckles turning white.
"Did you know she has visions, Commander? She knows the past, she sees the future. She was meant to return my soul to God, but couldn't. Do you know why, Commander?"
More harsh breaths were the only answer.
"Because Cylons do not harm one another."
That got a reaction. "Are you saying she's Cylon?"
"She is part of us. Yes. Cylon blood flows through her veins. Part of her will swim in the stream."
"She's Cylon," Adama repeated, his voice low and dangerous.
"She is more than you could imagine, Adama. Has been, will be. And yet, by perverting her destiny, she has subverted it. The dying leader will die, the stream will find a new path, the war will go on. The choices you made you will not make; you will kill her. You trusted her, didn't you? Wanted her? That should have been your first clue something was wrong."
Adama tried to hang up the phone, but couldn't hit the cradle. The receiver dangled, banging against the cell wall. "Guards, open the cell." The guards moved to get the restraints, but Adama waved them off. "Just open it. And shut off the cameras. And get the frak out of here." He had killed Leoben with his bare hands once. He could do it again.
