Till death do us reunite

For ar_drabbles challenge 69, "in sickness and in health." Because akachankami wanted darkness and I'm a contrary git. Is that glitter I see in the air?
Let's be optimistic, let's say that we won't toil in vain. If we pull together we'll never fall apart again )

Your gods are all around you. It's death you don't believe in."

Umm, yeah.

And then this
And then you'll pull me into your Elysium.
This is such a wonderful echo of "you made me believe." It' not so much that he has surrendered the spiritual to her, but that she is his belief, so his soul must follow. Lovely.

Exactly. This divide Laura accuses him of, this atheism, is an unfair rap. He still believes in what he always believed in -- his people, and her chief among them. He didn't take her spiritual journey because he never needed it.

"I'll die."

"So will I. And then you'll pull me into your Elysium. I'll see you again."

THIS. Perfect. Completely THEM. I can totally see Bill and Laura having this conversation, and this is exactly how I would imagine they'd respond to one another.

I always find it intesting that Laura is taken to be the spiritual one, but when you come down to it, it's Bill who is the believer.

I think that is the irony that RDM liked to play with: Laura is the level-headed pragmatist hawk who gets dragged in to the spiritual camp against her nature and Bill is the touchy-feely atheist dove. Laura tells Emily that the Gods are supposed to be metaphors but she interprets Pythia very literally. Your icon is a very atypical for her--we really don't usual see her in a spiritual mode.

glitter... yeah... "Do you believe that death parts us, Laura?"
"I think you do." it was pretty dark here... had to light a lamp to step further, and i found this: He took her into his arms, his kiss agreement the glitter! just before "I'll die." ... i think my lamp burned out, pitch black! =D
♥ i love them being together forever, after ark, after life! ♥ *shippy sigh*

Of course they will be together. If anyone tried to keep them apart Laura would threaten to use her eyeteeth on them.

I can't decide. Have you been getting softer on us these days, or am I toughening up?... Here you've got Bill and Laura having a fairly bald-faced discussion about her impending death, but I feel quite satisfied with the outcome!

"You're the least unbelieving man I know. You just pretend to be an atheist. Your gods are all around you. It's death you don't believe in."

Speechless with admiration. Truly, I think this may be the most insightful line you've ever written.
