bsg_aussiegirl got me into Downton Abbey, and I usually agree with her tastes, so when she warmly recommended Mr. Carson, I tried to fall in love. But I didn't. Like, surely, but not in love, as I did with Mrs. Hughes. You know how cute and sweet I find this. :)
I really see them talking a lot about poor ol' William and fretting about him. I really see something about William that brings out the mummy and daddy instincts in them.

Thank you for the suggestions on this fic -- you see I did incorporate some of them.

I wonder if he doesn't remind each of them of themselves when they first entered service -- a little idealistic, star struck, thinking that this was a step up in the world but there would still be time to have this and all the other good things (i.e. a personal life) too.

I have to say I'm always so elated when there's another C/E fan. I love this couple so much and they deserve many, many fics.
I'm with bsg_aussiegirl I think William brings out their paternal sides.

This probably will seem very conceited, but I write Carson/Hughes shippy fic, in fact almost everything I write with those two in has some element of ship in it. I'm not saying it's good, but it's certainly Carson/Hughes shippy. http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1995641/Lavender_and_Hay

Totally agree about their parenting insticts, they truly are Mum and Dad downstairs, no matter how much Thomas or O'Brien try to be acid about it.
The last two lines are just fantastic. My shippy heart is happy!
