And women must weep (Anna & Mrs. Hughes, S2E1 spoliers)

Not major spoilers by a long shot, but as this is a "missing scene," it will make more sense if you've seen episode 1 of the new series. Also prompted by something in the E2 promo, which had better have been out of chronological order.

Sort of a sequel to the drabble I wrote for the pre-airing thread on lovebelowstairs. It at least takes place in the context of ( Read more... )

I'm glad you did. All of this groping about in the dark, I'm happy to tell you, is in service of my trying to write for one of your ideas (I won't say which).

That's not much of a spoiler. I knew that was going to happen. Don't tell me where I read these things. *head desk*

I do love this. I'm super excited that it's going to be a 'series'. (Can I call it a series?)

You learn to be content. You learn to be glad you were that loved once in your life. Not everyone has that. You learn not to regret what might have been -- at least not too often. Now, onto those times when she does regret! And decides to do something about it!

No, it's not. Mr. Bates is no longer in the same house as you are. I can only imagine that will make a difference. Ooooh, so Elsie can cope as long as they're in the same house? Excellent!

More!

I did say that it wasn't a major spoiler, didn't I?

Ooooh, so Elsie can cope as long as they're in the same house?

Maybe. In some ways it's easier, still being a part of the other person's life, but in some ways it's much harder. You can't dream that if they were near things would be different, you can't pretend their dead and buried and that's why they're no longer showing you any love. I'd imagine it's a lot harder to bury regrets when you're confronted by the source of those regrets every day.

It did, didn't it? And from the previews, next week will be even more of a heartbreaker.

Oh my. I loved it. Especially this last bit.
"No, it's not. Mr. Bates is no longer in the same house as you are. I can only imagine that will make a difference."

It was hours later when Anna thought she understood what Mrs. Hughes meant, and she wasn't sure whether it made her want to laugh or to cry.

ouch, my heart. For both of them. To be near or far from the one you love, who you know loved you, either circumstance is painful in it's own right.

Exactly. Anna's right, that Mrs. Hughes doesn't know how she feels, but then again, Anna's been staring at what Mrs. Hughes feels so a long while now and hasn't even considered that she might have feelings at all.

Oh I love it. Plenty of angst which is grand, cause my heart is broken anyway. lol

Plenty of angst

Well, that does seem in keeping with the tone of the episode, doesn't it?

I think Angsty would pretty much sum up that episode.

So much empathy from Mrs. Hughes, and kindness. Very nice, and well-done. I look forward to reading more!
