A simple but effective way of contrasting a settled Bill, doing a job he's spent his life training for, and Laura, thrown in at the deep end trying to hold countless disparate things together. Likewise in only nine words you have conveyed the danger Cain represents, the potential she has to destroy what Bill and Laura have worked so hard to keep intact and to shatter Laura's faith that on her death she would leave her people in safe hands.
So much in so few words. I love your comment to akachan, "she's assembled her new life from scraps, he's hard-bound". I think that says it all in even fewer words... :)
Ooops sorry bugs!! I must have been reading and commenting on my smartphone. Damn eyes!! They've suddenly decided not to work properly when reading close up.
I've been thinking about how hard Laura's job is. It is almost completely improvised, she has none of Adama's trained staff, facilities, or supplies. But by this point she has worked out a partnership with him that gives her some comfort and hope. Great use of symbolism and the last line is a killer.
Of all of them, Laura is the one thrown furthest into the deep end -- Adama's doing his job, Billy is doing his, Lee and Kara are doing theirs. Even Baltar, though elevated to VP, is still mainly in the lab. Only Laura is learning to swim while in danger of sinking and dragging all humanity down with her. But hey, no pressure!
