ellie987 asked for a sequel to my last Carson/Hughes fic, but since that turned out to be as AU as I thought it would, this isn't strictly a sequel. It's set just after Lady Mary has left Carson's room and Mrs. Hughes has stayed.

My first draft was very angst-ridden, but then I spent hours cooking and listening to the pilot for the BBC radio programme

Haven't seen the eppy, but I'm hoping I won't kill my spoilers with your fics. (I'm avoiding everyone else's. I'm like that. Biased towards you. *snort*)

There are little spoilers here and there in the story, but only one plot point spoiler, which was pretty much given away in E1's promo, so you should be safe.

I'm working my way toward Carson/Hughes -- well, I can't say "smut," it doesn't feel right for the characters or the period, but I am trying to find a way to write about the characters being physically intimate. How'm I doing so far?
