A/N: In physics, quintessence is a hypothetical form of dark energy postulated as an explanation of observations of an accelerating universe. Quintessence is dynamic, and generally has a density and equation of state that varies through time and space.
All of this has happened before and will happen again. Something keeps their universe from banging and ripping and being torn to shreds by the cylons and by the dangers of space. Something keeps their cycle going.
Most of the Fleet thinks that something is Bill Adama. Bill thinks that it is Laura.
Bill is rigid, stable, unchanging. Laura is fluid, dynamic, changing across time and space. She is his primary fundamental physical constant. She is the something hidden, immeasurable, in all his decisions.
Laura is the quintessence his theories of love had predicted long before he had found her.
