Another pitch-perfect glimpse into how Carson and Elsie manage their complicated companionship. I love the "friendship" aspect of their evening here, him giving her a "take me away from all this, even if just in my head (and body)" moment.
What I like about Carson/Hughes is that friendship -- as opposed to just about any other ship on the show, whatever else they may have between them, the friendship is the bedrock of their relationship.
Holy hotness! That was... hot. Absolutely amazing for the lack of another word. And I love the angst between them. How they are stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to the feelings in their friendship, because they are afraid to lose everything they hold dear. *sniff*
"Can I get you a glass of water?" - Oh Charles, ever the gentleman. :D

And that's the big difference between C/H and Anna/Bates. Everyone knows about their relationship and it doesn't seem to make a difference, but if a relationship were suggested to exist between the butler and housekeeper, half the house would be startled to find out that people "that old" were still interested and the other half would be shocked that servants "that proper" would so lose their heads.
Oh Charles, ever the gentleman.
Yes, indeed. Because whatever else he is, he will always be her friend.

Everyone knows about their relationship and it doesn't seem to make a difference I always wonder what Elsie and Charles thing about the relationship between Anna and Bates now that they know that he is married, even if it was an unhappy marriage.
half the house would be startled to find out that people "that old" were still interested It always bugs me that people think, the "older" generation shouldn't long for love and closeness. I think nobody likes to be alone...
