So I went to pick up the kids at their little day camp today and there was a blood donor clinic set up in one of the halls. So I figured I’d do my civic good deed for the decade and donate blood after dinner

i totally agree with you on that. tis bloody (pun not intended) ridiculous to make you go through all of that just to find out they won't let you donate.
OMG... what a pain in the ass. I really do understand why they wouldn't want to use he blood, that's fine. I just don't understand why they couldn't ask that question right off the bat. "Have been out of country in the past 12 months?" or even better.... some people may want privacy on that so how 'bout they say.
"Just an FYI, if you've been out of country you may not be an elligible donor."...
Totally agree, this should be one of the first set of questions.
I thought about giving blood, but I had two bloodtransfusions after giving birth, so I'll be able to do it in a couple of years. I don't know how long you have to wait exactly.
I wanted to give my pee too, for mothers for mothers, but apparently that's not allowed either when you had a bloodtransfusion. I really, really, really fail to see why that is, what the hell does that have to do with my HCG level? The lady from the organisation couldn't explain it to me either *scratches head*
I know... it's silly. I just think it's incredibly unfortunate that I can't give blood. I'm O RH negative, which is a very rare blood type. The O neg part is rare enough but the RH facotr is what makes it even more sought after. I don't really understand what it's all about but the RH neg part is what makes my blood very useable for premature babies.
I don't know or understand much about it like I said but I think the RH part is related to the fact that I am naturally immune to the measles. YEP! I'll never catch the measles... *shrugs*
Anyway, If I have anything to do with it we will be taking trips at least once a year from now on... hopefully WITH the kids... so I guess my days of donating blood are done. Too bad though, I truly do like being able to help people.
Oh, that's a shame indeed, universal donor. I'm A negative, don't know any details further, but I thought it would be a good idea to give some back since I've had to have blood transfusions after both deliveries. But it seems you need to wait a couple of years before you can.
I didn't know that the malaria risk was a factor too. There are a lot of people excluded than.
