I taught two good classes today, the latter of which was particularly successful. Last week I asked students in the second class, which is an upper division course on media convergence, to edit a wikipedia entry and track what happened to their edits. They had a great time! Most of them submitted verifiable information, but a few of them "hacked" ( Read more... )

I made an attempt to edit a Wiki entry (one which I knew they had inaccurate information because I know the person in question) and I had to jump through so many hoops it astounds me that anyone bothers, and then my edits never did show up.

So I approach that whole "editing Wiki" thing with a somewhat jaundiced eye...

I think that there are lots of hoops if you want to become an official reviewer with privileges, but anyone can just click on the edit tab and start typing things in. Of course, if others don't like your edits and you keep doing it, they'll ban your IP address. Doesn't sound like you're interested in becoming a Wiki vandal, though!

No no, it's not necessarily you. There are some pages that are protected or semi-protected, so that you need to have an account in order to edit the page.
