they'd better be grateful!

I just finished making a massive final exam study guide for my students. It's so silly -- I'm the teacher but I'm getting pre-exam jitters -- I worry the test is too easy, I worry the test is too hard. I worry that there are ambiguities in my questions that I cannot see myself. Okay, deep breath ( Read more... )

Hee!

I had guacamole for the first time in January -- yum! And so easy: mash up avocado, garlic, salt, lime juice, add chopped tomato. Mmmm.

Avocado smoothie? Recipe, plz?

*is sheepish* I've always lived pretty close to Vietnamese communities, and they have restaurants with great avocado smoothies...

I once tried throwing some avocados, milk, and almost-caramelized sugar together in a blender, and it came out pretty well, but it was a pain to prep and clean for a cup of smoothie, so I just pay my $3...

Hee! That's ok. Thanks to teh google, I probably have more avocado smoothie recipes than I could ever use. Plain ones, ones with bananas and strawberries... even a recipe for avocado pie. (Basically avocado, condensed milk, a graham cracker crust, and whipped cream. Sounds strangely good to me.)

Making an exam too easy or hard is difficult to fix, but if there's ambiguities you can always fix that by rewriting the question on the board. I guess if it's too hard you can take some questions off the exam during the test.

Problem is that it's hard to tell before I grade the exams -- students don't always speak up during the test, and those that do don't always have legitimate issues. Of course the exam is as good as I can make it right now, but it's always possible that I'm not seeing something that I should be seeing...

You're right you can't always find the mistakes prior to grading. I usually retake the exam while the students are taking it to help me see it a bit better from their point of view, but even that won't catch everything. I've had to rescale questions later that I screwed up, or come up with two separate grading schemes for the same question depending upon how they interpreted it. I guess in the end we can't be perfect, all we can do is fix our mistakes the best we can.

If it is too hard, you could follow my dad's philosophy of exams: he'd make them too hard intentionally, to separate the people who really got it (and could build on what they'd learned) from those who'd just learned to do the particular problems. He didn't expect or want everyone to be able to do all the problems. And then he'd grade on a curve.

Strawberry crumble! Joy!

Getting curvier with a boyfriend would be even lovelier ;)

Hope your day has been a good one!

You have lovely curves! But I understand the surplus calories thing - I despair of losing the "last twenty pounds"! Maybe we could knuckle down together (provided I ever get over this cold!).

Thank you :) But it would be great to become virtual "work out buddies" -- help keep the morale high!

Hey, that might work! Unfortunately, right now the last thing I want to do is lift anything -- let alone myself! *blurg*

As a naturally curvy girl I approve of curvy over angsty. though I hate buying new pants. Much sympathy there! And I'd recommend a couple new bras that fit well. It'll help a lot; I promise!

Curvy over angsty, definitely!

I'm wondering whether I should take some provocative photographs to document these hitherto unknown formations...

Taking provocative photographs is always the right decision.
