Hello all.  It's been a horrible day today, but at least it's sunnier now.

As I said I got a puppy two weeks ago and my God, he's hard work!  House training has been fine, but we can't get him to stop biting hands and feet.  Hopefully, he'll grow out of it.

Awww, what a cute little lab! What's his name? As for the biting thing, just make a noise like a low squeal and turn away, to avoid playing. That should deter him after you do it several times. Mouthing happens, especially with babies. But this stops it from being a big problem when your lab is around 80 lbs and rambunctious. Cause it will happen.

His name is Oscar. Not alot of dogs named that.

I've tried squealing and he stops just long enough to tilt his head from side to side. I know that he's teething really badly just now, as he's only 10 weeks. He's got so many toys (and socks he has stolen lol) and a few bones to chew on and he does, he just likes to bite really hard. It's just a game of patience just now. Just until he's a little older.

*grins* There's a few. Especially dachshunds, since the breeds called "hot dogs" and there's a brand called Oscar Meyer's. ;)

Hmm. Maybe do it every time? It's just going to be a problem to untrain him. Trust me. I worked with a lot of the labs that mouthed and it kinda hurt. Maybe you could give him a toy when he mouths?

I know, he is cute and he is very well behaved. He can already sit and come when called. It'd be hard work with a puppy and a tiny baby though. ;)

I second the noise. I had a lab once. I had a soda can with about 10 or 15 pennies in it. Shake that sucker will get his attention.

Also substitute. He is biting because like babies teething it is uncomfortable. Use kongs, chewy toys, rawhide, cow hooves (if you want him to like this treat and not risk injury you need to get him one now/as adults some dogs may not know how to eat them and may splinter the hoof), pig ears, and other dog friendly stuff.

Without proper substitutes your hands won't be the only victims (shoes, table legs, and clothing are just a few things teething dogs will get a habit for)

Thanks for your advice. We are trying the noise so hopefully a bit of perseverance. I think I will try the soda can thing.

I understand that he needs to bite, I just wish it wasn't so hard, lol.

He has a kong, and he likes to bounce after it (he doesn't run so much as bounce along, sort of like Tigger)and lots of bones, but apparently he's too young for pigs ears. He's only 10 weeks old.

Yeah he's already stolen a few socks and an old trainer, but at least it's old.

You better stop him now while you can, once they start on feet items, they never stop. I made the mistake of making a chew toy out of old unwashed socks once.

Mine went through, sandals, socks, shoes, and lots of them. He probably ended up destroying 1500 worth in his ten years.

It's no bother. I've read your stories on fanfiction.net and found the link through there and you like Jonas Quinn just as much as I do, so that won me over lol.

On a side not, could I find a Jonas Quinn icon anywhere on L.J? Could I diddly!
