The "Homophobia is Gay" stickers went down a treat, and the confused looks on the faces of straight Christians was reward enough. The heterosexuality questionnaire ("When did you first discover you were heterosexual?") caused the most offense and my mental tally of homophobic comments failed to reach treble figures.

On the down side, a friend showed me a letter that had been sent out to all churches by the organisers before the event telling them that our project was going to be present but saying that it was ok because "they're not promoting subversive lifestyles but raising awareness of homophobia". Pick out the irony in that one.

I have a management meeting tomorrow and point one on the agenda is "why the youth service shouldn't have gone to that event in the first place". I'm looking forward to the argument that'll ensue.

Sounds like you're doing a marvellous job. It's amusing to see the faces of Christians when they draw back the veil just for a moment and see the towering hypocrisy of their "God is Love" ideal when juxtaposed with their institutionalised hatreds. I think it's a damn good thing that you were there!
