Late summer in America ...

We are landing in Boston w/c 13th August, and renting a car with the aim of getting to the Chicago Hyatt for Worldcon by Wednesday 29th. Then we're flying back from Chicago on the 4th September. We'd like to see people and places, eat and drink things, and travel slowly. Suggestions?
