Perhaps the writers felt that to do any more would compromise the quality. Sometimes, the story is told and to continue is a mistake no matter how much we might want it to. A bit like getting to the end of a really good film and wanting it to continue. Year's later someone makes a sequel and it just doesn't work.

It says something of the quality of the program that it had such an effect on you especially since I know how poignant you found some of the others you listed.

Sadly Eli Stone was cancelled, because, even though critically acclaimed, it didn't draw in enough viewers.

About 5000 people have signed a petition on ABC's website to save it.

I didn't watch that show, but I understand your sentiment. That's what Millennium was to me. I discovered it a time of big religious upset in my life, and it gave me a new sense of direction in my beliefs by suggesting ideas I had never been exposed to before. Anyway, I'm sad to hear of another good show canceled... it seems only the good ones are these days.
