So I just told my mom that I have to drop a class and go down to 12 credit hours this semester (rather than 15) and she kind of flipped out a bit. I have a ridiculous workload in terms of classes this semester anyway, but to have to finish my movie on top of that is kind of too much and I need to get out of at least one class or else I'm going to

Go all Nietzsche on her and tell her how family is a false societal construct invented by religions to keep people organized and in line. Once you get to "and that brings me to familial love..." she'll cave to whatever you're asking of her, whether it's money or her second-born.
