2009 Episodes: a Methodology

Jan 03, 2009 12:34

We've knocked the Netflix deliveries down to 1 at a time, so we get 3 a week maximum if there are no holidays. Nonetheless, we are 210 episodes into the moody, foggy, thundery soap opera Dark Shadows. At this point i am inclined to think the show is named after the "dark shadows" cast by the boom mics, but at the same time i am willing to tolerate ( Read more... )

iPods have a special "Compilation" section in addition to the regular choices of Artists, Songs, Albums, Genres, etc...

i see.
But i still have to face an endless artist listing if i'm searching that way, don't i?
i just don't want to crash the car trying to scroll down to S. :P

True, but I wouldn't say that's a defect in design since technically each song *would* be from a separate artist. The problem I've always had is when I have an album by an artist and then get a soundtrack with a duplicate song - nothing I've found yet is smart enough to let me just get rid of the dupe and "link" a song to both albums.

Well, i have to crank like an old fart™ about SOMEthing.
Hell, i used to just have ONE music folder with 2500 files in it. Each file name began with the artist's name. So this iTunes methodology with 6 BILLION folders makes me feel slightly ornery if not reactionary. ;)
i guess the main problem is with the scrolling design on pre-iTouch devices. That just slows things down when you have 1000s of files to sort through!
YOU must have an iTouch by now, O Collector Of Gizmos!

for soundtracks and compilations: in the tag info window, you can check off "Part of a compilation". that way, if you sort by artist, you will get each song by its individual artist, but if you sort by album, it's smart enough to know those are all from the same album.

Also, there is a Show Duplicates option in the File menu

were the 7shot screamers albums you got "keep the flame alive" and "in wonderland"????

I've got the first one(i was a teenage 7shot screamer), we should swap mp3s of those (as I missed that show and really wanted to pick up more of their stuff)

i've been recently been working on archiving all the movies, audiobooks, books and CD's I have. (and burning audiobooks onto CD-rs for space and backup) after I'm done with that I'll prob go to trying to properly tag the majority of my pictures for historical purposes.

also you can get
the Scream
downside up
the rapture
superstition
&
Peepshow

on the MLN library network, since the library is just right down the street from you, (or I can give you all the stuff I have, except if the remasters have anything particularly interesting they may be worth it (though I thought downside up took care of most of that)

According to reviewers, the mastering job on Downside Up was highly mediocre. Regardless, it seems to be the only way to get a lot of material. i haven't actually compared the contents of that songbatch to what's cropping up on the album remasters, so i need to do so and take it from there.

i keep forgetting the library has music! :P

i try to embrace my OCD side for this cataloging and archiving business. i just get distracted too easily. So, good luck with that!

Lastly, those are indeed the 2 albums i have.
Remember that time we were cold-kickin' it at su casa and i grabbed 6.9 gigabytes of your music library? i initially thought i had lost it with my hard drive failure, but it turned out to be on another drive. i STILL haven't sorted through all of that - 1777 files.
Part of the project. (Winter seems like a good time for this!)

i have the 7 Shot Screamers material you have because of the above file-grabbing incident, but we can arrange something for you to acquire my stuff nonetheless.
