More associations from katieowrites, bribitribbit, divinemum

The Drake Hotel The first time Katie and I met in person was at the bar in the Drake Hotel. For those who have never been, it's an amazingly classy joint and we had a great time just chattering and laughing and drinking some cocktails. ON a personal level, that's atcually the same bar where my Grandparents got engaged. My Gram was in school at U of I and my Grandad came in for a weekend visit. They went to the bar for drinks. . . both got a bit tipsy, he proposed and she said "what the hell". 50+ years later. . .
hotels with leopard print robes Hee! The great MOOBIE event in Chicago. We had. . . a LOT of people come in adn it was an absolute ball. Got a suite at one of the posh hotels in the loop where we could all crash, and it came equipped with a huge bath tub, large bed, flat screen TV, pull out couch, fruit/cheese/chocolate display from "Jeff" (and I still have no idea who "Jeff" was) and several large, plush leopard print bathrobes. That was the cause of much, much laughter.
being lost Again, this hearkens back to the first time Katie and I met up. After drinks at the Drake she was heading out to meet with her friends here in Chi-Town, and we decided to walk to where they were supposed to meet. About two hours later we were still wandering downtown trying to find this mythical margarita place. . .
giggling It's just inevitable with us. Like the tides or taxes, it's going to happen and it's going to happen often.
spamalot Is one of my favorite shows. Hands down. Love Python anyway, and I've seen it. . . 4 times? Maybe 5? Including twice when they were previewing here in Chicago so I've actually seen OUTTAKES. :-) If you ever get the chance, just youtube a couple of the songs. They're awesome.

musical theatre I'm such a theatre junkie, but musicals are generally my favorites. I LOVE singing, and when I was in HS, musicls were pretty much all I listened to. I still have a pretty decent collection of tapes and CD's from various shows. . . and while there are a few I really don't enjoy (I wanted to rip my eyes out of my skull at the one production I've seen of Godspell) and I'll never understand the alure of RENT. . . I can't think of a single one I wouldn't work on.
87 I think the Sub was where we started talking/hypothesizing. It is still a cool number. . . I generally default ot it when I need a good one. And besides, how often do you get to use the phrase "I'm a decimoseptologist!" any more?
submarines I miss the halcyon days of the SQ87. I'm still not really sure how it all got started, but it was such a cracktastic time. I still can't listen to Yellow Submarine without smiling like mad. . .
Douglas Adams Is one of my favorite authors. My user name on the Quill, where we met, was (and is) Frankie Beeblebrox. I'm a huge fan of the series and have been since HS. I think I even revived the Douglas Adams thread a couple of times over there. :-)
OMB Hee! I started using this on the forums when I needed a good, PC way to express shock and awe. Bob, in my mind, is actually a Dustbunny from a comic strip my friend femonky created in HS. It still cracks me up that it caught on so well.

theatre Is my passion and my vice. If you've read anything on this journal, you've probably figrued that out by now. :-)
Chicago Is still one of the most amazing cities on the planet. I came here for a week in HS (we were looking at the Monet exhibit for a Future Problem Solving group I was in) and I fell in love. Moved here right after I finished college.
the law firm Is where I sell my soul to Corporate America on a daily basis. It is not the worst job in the world by any stretch of the imagination. . . but it's definite;y not where I thought I would be working when I was growing up. I've been here almost 9 years and they pay me ridiculously well for teh ammount of actual WORK I am expected to do, so I can't really complain all that much.
The White Sox Ah, my Boys in Black. I've been a fan since before I moved to Chicago, actually, which was funny since the rest of the family are/were all Cubs fans. There's something timeless and eloquent about baseball. . . it gets in your blood, making your pulse pound and your skin flush. It's good for the soul. :-D ON a personal note, my Uncle Frank (who I am named after in a weird way) actually worked with the White Sox as a coach on their farm leagues when he "retired". Didn't find that out until after I'd been a fan, though.
PNOG The PNOG (which stands for Partially Naked Old Guy) Was the COG's dad. For those who remember my stories about him, he was quite a character to say the least. I have so many great stories about him. . . a short and IMO pretty amusing one happened one morning when I came downstairs and apparently no one else was up/around. The kitchen was (until very recently!!) set up so that the kitchen table was essentially hidden from the doorway until you got all the way into the kitchen and turned to face it. On the morning in question I went in and immediately started doing dishes, and since the sink is directly opposite the table, I didn't even notice he was sitting there. After a few seconds I heard his gruff voice say "Oh Frankie. Can I have some water?" When I turned to get his cup, he was sitting at the kitchen table, buck naked, holding his yellow glass out to me. Sadly he passed away on 12-13-2005. We sent him to the here-after Egyptian style, with some candy (which he absolutely loved and would eat constantly hated), some cookies (which he only ate because they would go stale otherwise), his yellow glass for water, a bottle of anbesol (duplicates of which I still to day find stashed around the house in odd places) and various other important things.
