Car is fixed. Huzzah, no more angry squirrels in the wheels.

In a funk today. Not really sure why, but I think it might be partly because COG is stressed and moody. Contract is up, I think, tomorrow night, which means the strike (and lack of paycheck it will bring) looms every closer.

I'm reading Devil in the White City by Erik Larson and ( Read more... )

That's how I feel about LA History. It's neat to see how all of these things happened in the city I live in.

For whatever reason it wasn't nearly as cool when I lived in Virginia. But then I was younger then.

I don't normally even read non-fiction, but I loved Devil in the White City. Somehow there's even a forward moving plot -- will the fair be a success? how many people will the killer hunt? Scary, but fascinating. It got me totally interested in the Chicago World's Fair and Chicago in general, and I've only been there once.

*puts book on to-read list*

Boo-hiss for looming lack-of-paycheck. Good thing the car is fixed beforehand! *hugs*

Wow: I just read that whole Wikepedia article about Holmes: I'd never heard of him before. What a horror!

Isn't he just unbelievably creepy?! And it happened. . . not that far from my house, actually. You can drive past the place where the castle was, though it's now a post office in one of the not-so-great neighborhoods.

Does he work at AT&T? My sister works there and was talking about a contract being up tomorrow night there...

Why yes, he DOES work for AT&T. He does installation and repair, and happens to be one of the union stewards. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for no strike! Looks like they're dealing, so we'll see what happens.

My sister was here visiting this past weekend and she had to stay up on Saturday night and make sure there was going to be no strike. If there had been, she was going to have to pack up her baby and husband and they would have had to drive home in the wee hours of the morning!! I hope that they deal. I'm all for the good that unions do, but the economy seems so shaky right now for anyone to have to go without paychecks for long periods of time!
