I saw Rent again yesterday afternoon... I sat at the top part of the mezz, so Adam and Anthony were two tiny pinpricks (made worse when the spots were on them), cause I had forgotten to bring my glasses... Although it made Anthony's baldspot that much more noticeable...
Anyway, the show was great, the guys and everyone were spot on... It was a nice surprise to see that they had added Merle Dandridge for the last few weeks of the tour... She and Anthony have nice chemistry... Nicolette grated on my nerves (she never had before), Justin was blah, but I enjoyed Michael and Lexi and everyone else... The staging was kind of off though... Mark stayed on stage when the drug dealer came up to Mimi at the end of, "Happy New Year." I've been thinking about it and the actor has to linger out of sight, because he introduces, "Take Me or Leave Me," but you could clearly see Anthony... That and at the end of Mark and Roger's section of, "Goodbye Love," Mimi is supposed to be back on stage to overhear them talking about her, but Lexi wasn't visible till she knocked on their door.
When I went in there was a protest going on in the square next to the theatre... I couldn't really tell for what, I saw people carrying signs that said, "Harper do your job," but I went a past a group that had a sign that said something about Hispanics... So I have no idea, when I came out they were all gone... I walked up and down the block a couple of times trying to figure out where the stage door was... After a few minutes I realized that the Winter Garden's stage door was at the end of the block (the theatres aren't that far apart), so I went in that direction... I got to the end and started on the block back towards Yonge St and lo and behold there was a large group of people lined up in the alleyway... Only in Canada do people line up at the stage door :P And only Anthony came out, the security at the door confirmed that only he would be coming out... I saw him, and then I left... I thought about trying to get rush for the evening, but I was sick all Friday night, and still didn't feel that well... And I saw a sign on the doors at Victoria St. saying that they couldn't guarantee $30.00 (WTF? it's supposed to be $20.00) rush tickets, so I went home...
Second, I finally got to see Conan's final, "Tonight Show." I've been kind of ambivalent about the whole thing, I never really watched Conan (or Jay really, Letterman is more my speed), and I was hopeful with space opening up NBC's primetime schedule that they would have space for, "Rex is not my Lawyer," *ahem*.. Anyway, Conan was a class act, and everyone has been so supportive of him... You could tell he just wanted preserve the "Tonight Show," and leave it the way that Johnny Carson left it (and Jay Leno preserved it). Jay Leno should publicly thank Conan for giving him his job back and even have him as his guest on his first night back (which will never happen)
