I also miss those Otakon days, Andre.

I went to PAX East twice, and while I enjoyed the hell out of it, and it is much more laid back than Ota ever was, I realized at the end of each con I failed to make social connections. After every Ota (and my last was 2005), I came home with email addresses and instant messenger names. I'd immediately get in touch with my fellow fans after I got home. I kept in touch with them for years, and when I finally fell off the social map, it was due to three reasons 1) the decline of AOL instant messenger 2) Warcrack, which meant when I was on my home comp for recreation, I was not keeping any chat programs up, and 3) the teaching profession makes use of Facebook a very risky idea.

Oh man, so much natsukashii. When I went to visit my mom a few months ago I finally gave away all ~400 of my VHS anime tapes. Theoretically they're going to some poor otaku girl in Arizona who will appreciate them. I still don't have the heart to get rid of my DVDs.
