Food Does make people happy.
I'm obsessed with food. I had a friend in Egypt that I could be really culinarily adventurous with. We tried random street fruits, ate liver in Cairo, and kidneys in Jerusalem. We'd describe the herbs and spices in each bite and debate the recipes of our favorite dishes. The mid east has so many exciting flavors and quirks to taste. Food is all around me here, it's so hard not to give in to buying something at every corner. On my way to work, I walk past, (I do walk to work), roasted corn stands, summer fruit, pumpkin seeds, tamiyya stands (falafel), about 50 convenient stands, and breaderies. Not to mention all the trendy WiFi cafes in Zamalek. I'm definitely forming a fetish for the culture of international foods.
Three weeks goes fast. Or slow. I miss grass over there. I'll miss the aysh baladi here.
(i'm linking you to my friend's prose about the Ethnic Aisle. she's talented. http://www.sabah-
