I am writing this from a bus. Cool, I know. I took the Chinatown bus to DC this weekend and am currently heading home. I went to spend time with my aunt and my uncle. Also, my aunt and I saw The Visit yesterday.

But first things first. I promised

Wow, I like the sound of those plot changes in the second half of Side Show. I'm sure it still sucks (god, Mark, it's so bad), but it sounds like an improvement.

Aww, I like Side Show. They also cut a large portion of the recitative and replaced it with dialogue. I forgot to mention that above.

A) The prostitution angle is not in the original script.

B) "The Best" was the original song that was in the "Get Myself Out" spot, but it was cut because Stubby Kaye had arthritic knees. Seriously. The staging required him to be bending down and rooting through the junk in the alley looking for a bum to work with, and Stubby couldn't bend at the knees.

C) We aren't supposed to "all have" those demos. But that's a story for another time...

Yeah, I didn't think the prostitution was, but I couldn't remember.

I don't know, maybe it's just because I'm familiar with "Get Myself Out," but that song seems a lot funnier than "The Best," and it's not like "The Best" develops character in a way that we don't get through the dialogue or anything.

And when I say "we all" have those demos, I really mean just you, me, and Lauren. I'm pretty sure no one else on my flist has them. But you know the internet - you can't ever give anyone anything without them eventually leaking it.

Okay, I love the campy mess of Sideshow and I'm glad they're making the plot more intelligible.

I have no reference at all for the second show- except that I'm jealous of your knowledge.

Thank you so much for the recap, Mark! The revisions sound fascinating. (I know I've got the demos somewhere...I should dig those up.)
