HAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAA ALL AFSers (except special kids) have the same problems with families. Japanese moms are all the same I swear to God. XD XD XD
I don`t think you should focus on the bad stuff though. I mean, you accomplished what you came here for. Learning about Japanese culture! ♥ love love love, no time. Have a good new year.
Man, I feel you on the AFS is stupid bit. I had to sign a support agreement recently too, saying I have to talk to family and make more of an effort than them and stuff. Which pisses me off whenever I think about it. How dare they force the students to do stuff like this when it doesn't fit their fancy? We paid the money to come, didn't we? Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Anyway! I'm sorry about school and your family. At least yeah, you're not the reason you're not popular at school. You just got put in a bad situation overall during this stay, but don't let that taint everything. Like you said, look forward. That's what new years are all about. がんばりましょう!!
Yeah, today the AFS prez called and told me to tell her happy new year in Japanese, plus the whole arite then sign a contract though your a minor thing. Anywho, がんばります!!
Sorry you probably don't know me and I don't know you. I'm also living in Japan on AFS in Ibaraki (quite close to you. Yay Kanto). Anyway, here's what I want to say. I will be the first one to say that the majority of AFS Japan people are assholes. My chapter president is a lying bitch and if you looked up annoying bureaucracy in a dictionary, you'd see her picture. Yet the contention that AFS should bow to our whim because we paid the money to come here is just wrong. I think what you should be asking is a little bit more compromise or reason (It is AFS so it's a long shot but eh? It's nice to dream).
I didnt mean for it to seem like I thought AFS should just comly with my every whim, I do understand (sometimes) why AFS works the way it does, but for a compromise to have worked the problem should be resolved to help both parties. Im not sure which of my AFS complaints you were addressing, but for I litterally got zilch from AFS, my LP didnt give me any help for 3 weeks after I told him my beef with my first family, so later I talked to the president who didnt epathize with me at all. I know she didnt have to say
( ... )
Happy new Year, Nathan!I can't tell if your host mom's behavior is a cultural Japanese thing that's lost in translation or if it's just your host mom. x_x
And I'm so so sorry about the class...I wondered about that, you know, since I hang out with a lot of K-Level kids at Cy-Fair, would I be hanging out with the equivalent of K-Level kids in Japan if I did a High School transfer. But considering that kids have to apply to high school AND you're in a bad class, than you can't blame yourself at all for being miserable on some days.
But I'm sure you've done a lot of amazing stuff in Japan too, so please don't regret it too much. If it makes you feel any better, you've made me feel better about waiting until college to go to Japan; I'm sure it's still a great country, but you need to be prepared for it. But we can't wait until you come home, so just try to enjoy the rest of your stay and hang in there!
