Part OnePart TwoPart Four Lex smiled at Madison and Lucas. Lucas smiled back at him. Lex could tell he was excited. Madison? Madison looked like someone was taking her to prision. Lex looked at her and then at Lucas, shooting him a question with his eyes. Lucas shook his head and shrugged, like saying, 'don't worry man'.
They arrived to the airport and Madison froze inside the car. Lucas grimaced and sat besides her sister. He whispered something in her ear. Madison shook her head. Lucas looked at her, begging with his eyes, full puppy dog look. Madison rolled her eyes and still shook her head.
"I'll take a bus," she said firmly. Uh-oh. Lex understood immediatly. The great Madison Luthor was afraid to fly.
"Madison, is okay. This things are safer than buses, really," he said. Madison glared.
"As if you ever took a bus in your life," she said. Touché, thought Lex.
"Not really, but I have taken plenty of this planes. Believe me, we will be in Metropolis before you realize it. Come on, don't force me to take a bus for the first time in my life. Because there's no way that I'm letting you go alone," Lex said. Lucas jumped.
"Me neither. And I really wanna take the jet. Come on, Mad. It's safe."
"Okay, Okay," Madison said at last, but she was tense. She didn't let go of her purse and glared when the flight attendant tried to take her jacket. Lex ordered some fine whisky for her, that she drank in just one glup. So, no more whisky for Madison. Lucas, instead, let his jacket be taken, enjoyed champagne and strawberries, relaxed in the luxury seats and enjoyed the view.
Lex sat in front of Madison and was tempted to take her hand, but was afraid of being slapped.
"Just look at him," he said softly. Lucas was flirting with the flight attendant, letting her fast his seatbelt for him. Madison shook her head.
"Being a rich spoiled boy suits him," she said. Lex laughed. Madison glared at the flight attendant again and fasted the seatbelt a little too tight herself. Lex said nothing about that.
"We'll have to worry that he doesn't get too spoiled," he said.
"Too late," Madison said and sighed. "Mom and I already ruined Lucas," she confessed as the plane started. Lex smiled. Yeah, he could see that. Lucas didn't have a job, while Madison had two.
"Lex," Madison called once the plane was in the air. Lex turned around to look at her and was surprised at her serious look.
"There is... Lucas... he has a gambling problem," she said bluntly. Honestly. Lex blinked, surprised. That private investigator really wasn't worth the money he had paid him.
"What?"
"What you heard. And bigger money means bigger problems. I don't want Lucas to get in bigger trouble because he has more money to spend. I'll need your help in that," she said. Lex nodded seriously.
"Of course. You have it," he said.
"He promised me he will go to law school. He's going to talk to you about that. About hiring people to prepare himself to get in a good law school. That was a condition for me to agree to come," Madison told him. Lex nodded. It was reasonable. Lucas was young and he would want to do something with his life.
"And what about you, Madison?" Lex asked.
"Me?" Madison parroted back, surprised.
"Yes, you? You don't want to go to university too?" Lex asked. Madison shrugged.
"Since I never finished high school, that's a bit impossible."
Lex was shut silence with surprise. She never finished high school. He nodded. "I see. Well, you could finish high school. We could hire some tutors and home school you for you to finish high school." Lex offered. Madison nodded.
"That would be nice. It's only a year I have left. I had to take a second job to pay bills and I couldn't keep up with school..." she waved her hand and stopped talking. As if Lex wouldn't be interested in her domestic problems. Regularly, Lex wouldn't be, but this was his sister.
"No, tell me," he said. Madison shook her head.
"Nothing, too many problems since mom died and Lucas started gambling. And social services wouldn't leave us alone, so we kept moving around... anyway, that's over. We are legal now, have been for a while. And Lucas got to finish high school, granted, he didn't got the best grades, but he graduated, so, it's all good," Madison said. Just then the pilot announced they were about to land in Metropolis.
Madison looked at Lex surprised and Lucas came to sit with them.
"So, bro, what's the first thing we are going to do in Metropolis?" Lucas asked. Lex smiled at the young man.
"Shop for clothes. And then see the lawyers. We are going to fill some paternity tests demands for Lionel. That's the first step," Lex said.
"What's wrong with my clothes?" Madison asked, offended.
"Nothing," Lex and Lucas said together.
"It's just, we need fancier stuff, Mad. The expensive shit, deal?" Lucas said. Madison muttered something under her breath and closed her eyes while the plane landed.
