Thoughts on Episode III - Warning, mild spoilers

Like most of you who are reading this, I saw Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith last night. And as probably the biggest Star Ward fan any of you know, I'm sure you're dying to hear my thoughts. If any of you want to dispute that claim, I will remind you I actually dabbled in the Star Wars: Roleplaying Game, and more than dabbled in the ( Read more... )

But this isn't real life. It's a movie, a space opera even. And I don't think Lucas was going for a teenage goofy love thing. I just don't think he knows how to write good dialogue between the sexes.

And with my mentioning of the "liberty" line, I wasn't hanging my hat with the Palpatine/Bush analogist. I think it's a little narrow minded to think Bush is the only leader in history that tried to extend his power. I just thought it was an especially dumb line. It was like Lucas was holding my hand saying, "Ok, this is what's happening here in case your deaf, dumb and blind."

And yes, all of those ships were very, very cool.

I didn't feel the romance scenes were nearly as awkward this time around. Actually, upon looking back at Episode II, the romance scenes should have been as awkward as they were...the dialoge shouldn't have been so bad though. I didn't have a real problem with the "liberty" line. I just think it was delivered poorly. And Hayden Christensen really nailed Anakin this time, thankfully. A few bits with Palpatine going all evil were, um, cheesy to say the least and I was disappointed with the lack of real wookie fighting action. You realize the final cut for the digitally projected theaters is slightly different from the ole fashioned celluloid just because Lucas can keep tinkering with it and then beam it up. I'd like to know what the differences are.

Why should they have been awkward? It always seemed to me that Anakin's downfall was his love for Padme. If this love is big enough to cause a Galactic Civil War, it should be a little more solid.

And yeah, Hayden Chistensen did do a much better job this time around. Especially when he got to the meater stuff at the end. I knew there was an actor hiding in there somewhere.

I didn't know about the digital cut. Any idea what's differnt?

The awkwardness comes from the fact that neither of them are prepared for this and don't know what to do. No one can know but them, they can't share it with anyone else. It's forbidden for them to be together. Plus, Anakin was young and this was his first love.....so it should have been a bit awkward for him, at first. The awkwardness should not have continued for as long as it did though.
