I'm honestly kind of baffled at WoW's popularity, but I think for many people they just keep playing it because they've already infested so much time in it (in getting to level 70--or is it 80 now?--in getting their uberleet gear with which they go out and kill newbies, in doing raids every night that you can apparently AFK, at least for parts of it) that it just feels wrong to simply stop playing it. Cause if you stop, you can't grind out new gear and therefore you're no longer competitive.
I'm sure parts of WoW are fun. Just not the early parts I played :P
(I know this is breaking genre, but I hate the game so much I'm going to add to your little flowchart.)
GW > WAR > hitting yourself over the head repeatedly with a large stick > WOW > being disemboweled by a rusty screwdriver > EVE Online
EVE turned me off so much to persistent world that GW2, should it be persistent world, will start with a -10 favor with me and have to work its way up, assuming I even try it. I will not put up with angsty little gamerkiddies whose sole purpose of playing is to stop other people from playing.
Yea I've tried other games too, and always end up coming back to GW. What's also nice about it is that you don't have to do any upkeep payment. So once you've installed & played on it a while, you can have your computer crash, lose the installation CD, and be away from the game for a year, but you can always continue where you left off (I'm speaking hypothetically, not from experience :P). You can even download the client off the site without hunting all over the place for it. Maybe its just cause I'm in computer support, but the ease of support just makes me very happy. Especially with all this DRM going around as of late (ie. Spore).
I think I might've mentioned to you before that I tried playing Everquest 2 at a friend's insistence and ended up failing horribly. Evidently you can aggro that docile level 1 crab at the docks, and yes it can kill you while you're trying to figure out how to equip a weapon. It's amazing to me how different the user interfaces can be in these different MMOs, but GW's always seems so very

Yeah, I have GW installed on my own desktop computer, on my new laptop and on my dad's computer for when I'm at his place, so I always have access to GW everywhere :P. And no monthly fees! I didn't mention that in my entry, but it's really a big plus (though I actually was willing to pay a monthly fee for WAR if I liked it enough

Really funny developer interview videos. (Seriously, even if you're not going to play the game go look those guys up. They're great)
Seriously though..I play all 3. They're all very very different games. And I agree with most of what you said actually.
WoW....oh god you started a human. The human area makes me want to claw my eyes out it's so boring. I can't say it gets better but I can say it never gets worse than that. With WoW I ignore the graphics. Before games I read books. If you look into it WoW has a ton of readily available lore. I'm talking weeks of reading.
WAR try playing a sword master. We joked about building a summer home as me and a lower level healer killed a hero monster. I play for my friends and the interesting things I sometimes see.
GW the truth is I love GW but I've run out of things to do. AB and pvp in GW never held any real appeal to me. I keep looking for news of GW 2 and finding nothing. Which makes me sad.
Where are these developer videos? Team Fortress 2 also had some amazingly funny "Meet the [class]" videos that are hilarious even if you've never played it.
Yeah, I rolled a human Bright Wizard because I love eles in GW and that was the closest one to an ele. Plus, I figured it was a reasonably easy starter class (see stuff. Attack stuff. Blow stuff up. Profit!) and I didn't want to make it difficult for myself :P
I loooooove lore. I must've read the GW lore a thousand times (also because I'm writing fanfic about it) and I really hope GW2 gives us a lot of it. I'm really looking forward to the books set between GW1 and GW2. Waaaaaant :D
I really love ABs in GW; I even go as far as pugging them, even though I never even pug PvE anymore :P. They're fun, casual PvP, and I get to laugh at a lot of bad builds people bring (at heart, I'm a meanie
Even if you found WoW horribly boring to play I do recommend most of the books for it(I haven't got my hands on a few of them yet) and the Diablo ones as well. They're not masterpieces, but they're good stories, and I was freaking out to Dan, who was helping me level the first time, when I met a character from one of the short stories. "I READ ABOUT HIM

GW is too hard? Huh. Interesting perspective. I feel GW is relatively easy to learn, but hard to master -- the real top guilds like The Last Pride, War Machine, Treacherous Empire, Idiot Savants etc did play on a whole different level than the rest of us plebes :P.
Yeah, I've wandered around quest locations in WAR too, trying to find something minuscule on the ground. I did think it was a nifty system to just indicate the general area of the quest, rather than exactly indicating where you have to be, like GW does.
Yeah, the server system bugs :/. God bless GW and its international district and free travel between districts :P. I understand WoW even has a split between America/Europe/Asia/Oceania whereby you can't even play with Americans if you're European, unless you jump through hoops (getting an American gamecard or something like that). Since I have a lot of international online friends, that just blows.
I dunno, I've tried a ton of different games GW was good, it kept me coming back for awhile, mostly becasue it was free. But no matter how many games I try, I keep on going back to WoW, there is just something I find so engrossing in the game. GW I found boring once you got to level 20 because there were instances you had to have a party for, there was no option of doing them solo, or even with the henchmen because you just needed the other human input to complete the objectives.
Hm, I think most of the "normal" game content can be H/H'd; it's just stuff like DoA and UW/FoW that really requires other real people to complete. I've H/H'd everything in the game (except the Eternal Grove since you need to split, but I think even that can be done when you have heroes) and I never really ran into trouble.
I do agree GW's endgame content is a bit lacking, but I'm not sure how to fix it (if they can. I think the devs are mostly focused on GW2 by now).

But I highly recommend Dead Space and Mirror's Edge!
Things aren't looking good for Sims3 though. Not good at all.
