in eighty-nine years

This is laughably out of date, but I've been hanging onto this book with the intention of writing a reaction to it for literally years now, and I am going to do it even if it's become near-irrelevant and I've forgotten almost everything I once meant to say.

I remember being really disappointed by this book, so much so that I never finished it. I was so surprised because I'd loved two of Rainbow Rowell's other books (Attachments and Eleanor and Park), but I found it unengaging for all the reasons you mentioned. Such a disappointment!

This was the first of hers I'd tried, but I was excited about seeing fans represented in fiction and was really disappointed like you said to find such an unfaithful depiction. Ah well - onward!

I got this book out of the library and only got through about a chapter and a half before deciding it was Not For Me, so I'm glad to know I didn't miss something wonderful. (There's something very comforting about shared disapproval, for some reason.)

You clearly spent your time much better than I did. :) And yes! It's very affirming to hear that it left someone else cold as well.
