Oh noez! I haven't seen this, and I've been watching the news. Poor Kevin. I've had many friends go out and surf before storms. I wish him a speedy recovery! This stuff can happen to anyone.
And as for the release lever ... I was once kayaking in the potomac and my kayak flipped over and I almost drowned because I momentarily forgot about the release lever. Once I calmed myself down and told myself not to panic, I remembered and was able to swim to the surface. In a state of panic you really don't think of these things.
Yeah... my understanding is that kite surfers are strapped in and have an emergency release, but most people familiar with it agree that he had zero time to engage it. Sucks...
I'm really glad you shared what was on your mind, babe. You express yourself beautifullly.
"Never look down on anybody unless you're helping them up."
Continuing to hold good thoughts for Kevin, his family and all who care about him..may he continue to improve each and every day until the aches and pains are just a faded memory.
Yannow, I think in this day and age of too much schadenfreude it's all to easy to forget that there are real people behind the painful things laughed at on You Tube, people who live with those mistakes and accidents for the rest of their lives.
Because people don't actually have anything substantive to discuss in their own lives, they spend an unjustifiable portion of their day -- and lives -- snarking on strangers, laughing at an old lady trip.
It's simultaneously fascinating and repulsing. It's at a fever pitch these days, too, with the anonymity of the Internetz and the potential celebrity associated with it if you are actually brazen enough to sign your name to it.

P.S. And thank you for correcting my misspelling of schadenfreude!

They'll have forgotten him by tomorrow.
A speedy recovery to your friend.
