Dance people: is Dave Pearce a good bloke, a knob, both, neither? I realise how little I know about the bumbling uncle of dance culture.

i have always thought of him as a nob, but it's both really. you could argue pete tong is a nob too but i've always found him far easier to respect.

I've only listened to his show once or twice, not really enough to form an opinion on his knobbishness. However he strikes me as a populist - play recognisable tunes to get dudes in the mood for dancing, a method of which I approve wholeheartedly of course.

Weirdly I don't have any conception of him at all, I don't think I've ever even listened to his show. He doesn't seem all that relevant to anything I'm interested in...when it comes to dance, that populist all-things-to-all-people thing doesn't tend to be conducive to quality.

I quite like dave Pearce. His show pretty much does what it says - and now he has been sidelined by radio 1 in the schedules he is embracing the traditional British political power structure viz. posh boy figurehead for working class taste which middle class taste won't recognise. Well, sort of - except the class thing doesn't work, it's more a metropolitan / peripheral taste thing with all that bosh.
