Have any of you all ever been out and run into someone that you remember that you had a reason to dislike but have forgotten the precise reason? But yet you feel the reason is entirely valid even if you don't recall exactly how so? How do you handle that? For the purposes of this question imagine you encounter this person publically, i.e., a party ( Read more... )

I've found that anything short of, say, confirmed criminal behaviour doesn't generally warrant overt public shunning/snubbing. If you can't remember why you don't like them, treat them like any other undesirable specimen: acknowledge them if spoken to/introduced/you find yourself next to them, and then drift away as soon as convenient- otherwise, ignore them. Be polite, be civil, be cool, be gone. Like, ASAP. Trust your instincts, and all, and go away as quickly as possible.

I remind myself that if I can't remember, then there's a good possibility that it doesn't really matter anymore. Also, it's been a long time, and people change. Also, I'm at a party, there's plenty of other people to deflect, should I "remember" what it was.
