DAD - Diabetic Alert Dog

We have been entertaining this idea for a while, and I think last night I found what we need to make it real. Mischka is to become a DAD - Diabetic Alert Dog.

I know it will be a long journey and not an easy one, but I believe that with the help of this forum we will succeed.

I want to document our progress and that's where we start:

So cool that Mischka could be trained to detect that! How about a double-paw handshake as an alert? (I guess that would look kind of like the 'beg' position) Nice to be on LJ when you make one of your rare posts :-)

I thought about double handshake, but I am hesitant at the moment, because she just had 2 surgeries - fixing ACLs in both her knees - so I don't feel comfortable putting all her weight on her hind legs. She will need about 4 months to completely heal.

Kirez insists that we should teach her to bite his ankle, but I am not sure about this one :)

There are dogs that can sniff out cancer - why not ketones? :^}
