Hi, Couldn't agree more about the police state. I've even gone as far as saying so in my dissertation when I explain that I am beginning to identify with Sarah fleeing Iraq where people disappeared or were murdered by Sadam. Blair's fear of terrorism is turning us into a police state, where even at party conference verbal opposition runs the risk of being stifled. - Heil Hitler!! There now I'm probably on some police file as being a subsersive!!
Glad to see the clamour for justice runs in the blood.

I agree with you on the police state, lil bro! Last week was the week where stewards at the Labour party conference violently ejected someone for shouting "nonsense" during Jack Straw's speech. They also threw out a chap sitting near the old man for saying, "leave him alone, he's just an old man." A Labour Party member who took photos at the beginning of the conference, of the crowd as they filed in. A large party member came up to the guy with the camera, took him to a police-man who took the camera from him and deleted the photos. Even Cherie Blair's own sister was not immune. She joked that she would shout something about the war during her husband-in-law's speech. Then, as Tony Blair took to the stage, she found that there was a steward next to her the entire speech ( ... )

But my reservations anonymous October 3 2005, 14:52:33 UTC
I disagree with you on the issue of the NHS, though. There is a fundamental contradiction between the righteous anger you devote to those running our police state, and then your defense of government provided health care. It is an odd position to say that the government can't be trusted when it comes to foreign policy and civil liberties, but that we can trust governments to care for our health ( ... )

CLC bookshops? Maybe! Terror laws have already been used to shut out animal rights advocates from the US, so possibly!
