How could you not just laugh derisively at anyone trying to compete with you based on their partner's accomplishments? What a fucking joke. It's not even worth responding to something like that.

Some people point to feats like the Curiosity rover's landing and say that it discounts spirituality. But when I think about it, it makes me feel closer to the universe--closer to God and closer to man. -

Living in Fear
I know way too many people who are like, "I went to go to see The Dark Knight and it was great but I had one eye on the exit the whole time!" Really? Because the odds of your being involved in a mass shooting are still pretty much zero.

Why I Really Disliked Brave
Apparently not everyone I know is running out to see Brave right away for some reason; maybe because from the trailers it's obvious that this particular offering by Pixar is more cartoony and kid-oriented than many of their previous films have been. Having it All
I keep seeing articles like this one about women "having it all," meaning high profile, hands on careers and a fulfilling family life and I'm wondering if the proper question isn't whether women can have it all but whether anyone can do it all at that level. In our culture men have never been asked to be both the breadwinner and the primary ( Read more... ) -

Can't see comments
For some reason I can't see comments on LJ anymore. I will click on "comments" on someone's post and in the comments section it will just say how many comments there are, but there is nothing there. It doesn't help if I post something myself. I am not sure if this has something to do with adblock or something or if LJ just has really shitty code. ( Read more... ) -

One of the literary agents I follow has indicated that urban fantasy is out and epic fantasy is back in with editors. Can't stop jumping up and down!! Need to edit this book fast! :D -
Prayer isn't the answer to everything
The other day an acquaintance on my FB (I've only met him once) posted about how while on a flight to Denver he saw a fight between two married people. The husband refused to change seats so that he could sit with his wife, whose seat was 6 rows further back on the plane. The wife was very upset and ended up going back to her own seat sobbing.
