I just finished the first part of the Intimate Merton and I have to say that Thomas Merton is a very passionate man about his life both in a spiritual context and a literal one as well. The editor's of the book gave a preface where they note that the man literally wrote at every waking moment in his life. This shows as the journal entries in the

That quote reminds me of Madeleine Albright's comment about how anyone who thinks that the world would be a more peaceful place if women ran it is forgetting what high school was like.
