Eeeek, I can't believe your EFC went from 4k to 36k!!!!
I'm not College Spice but I'm pretty sure if your EFC exceeds the price of the school, it basically means they expect your parents to pay for everything without the help of financial aid, and the leftovers are basically your spending money. It's never fair and it never makes sense, because usually families can't actually commit as much as the FAFSA says they can. Who knows how or why they do it that way, but that's just life.
Basically it means you are probably only going to get offered loans, not financial aid awards or grants. :(
That is beyond ridiculous! They get you to commit to a school and then raise your parent contribution by a whopping 30,000? I loathe the Berkeley financial aid office; I'm still bitter about my "financial aid package". 200 dollars indeed.
Do you have to take out loans to make up the difference? Or did you parents just recently make a mint in the stock market or something? Hmmmm...there a still a couple scholarships you can apply for. The Vets for Peace scholarship is due soon.
To tell you the truth there is nothing really I can say (financial aid isn't exactly my realm of expertise). Except that Berkeley sucks. A lot.
