She raised her wrist and consulted her watch. She was exactly two minutes early. She sighed a little. Would it hurt them to be ready on time - for once? She shook her head. She had no reason to let it rattle her composure. She settled down on the sofa to wait. She cast an expert eye over the décor, sometimes she couldn’t help channelling her mother’s influence. Beige walls made the perfect backdrop for the framed prints. It was surprisingly tasteful, she decided, including the fanned arrangement of the reading material on the coffee. One of the titles caught her eye. She felt a funny sort of excitement build. It wasn’t something she would have thought to buy for herself, but this opportunity had fallen in her lap.

Half an hour later, her legs tucked up beneath her, her lips moving as she read, she felt a tear fall. She sniffed. This wasn’t the way she’d have written the story. Angel deserved to get the girl!
