The Land Down Under - Colloquialisms

Today I had my first clue that I was fitting in here in Australia. Some folks on my harbour cruise this morning asked why I was in Sydney and I told them I was on holiday. Without even thinking I used the word "holiday". It took several seconds for me to realize what I had done and it made me proud. Its the simple things in life ya know ( Read more... )

The people in AUstralia from my experience are friendly and just open people..give them 5 minutes and they will tell you their life..

def great people and a great time in Aus when I was there...

You probably WILL pick up the accent. I was there about 2 weeks. Then in New Zealand another 2 weeks. I went back to Texas in January with a tan and an australian accent. Unfortunately, I lost the accent (and the tan) in a few weeks.
But, I wasn't trying to keep it. Perhaps if you make a conscious effort you can be Australian forever.

"Australian forever" has such a soothing ring to it. I tell ya, if more people in our big cities in America were more aussie-like, I think the world would be a nice place.
