Memory Mishaps Plot Idea

Spurred on by people talking about arriving in the City and not remembering the exploits of past versions of themselves, Curtis has gotten an idea. He’s got it in his head to try to ‘fix’ this so that everyone will remember things that the previous versions of themselves in the City did. To do this, he uses his “phenomenal cosmic powers” to make a machine that would make another machine that would restore everyone’s memories. Of course he doesn’t think things through entirely and either through just messing up or Porter-intervention, things go wrong and the machine gives a pretty bad reaction.

Instead of restoring memories to people, the machine causes several people in the City to lose memories. The memory loss would vary from person to person, people losing weeks, months, or even years worth of information and believing they were from different points in their lives. Curtis meanwhile would be out cold for a few days while the machine continued to hum away maintaining the memory loss.

It would last until either Curtis woke up and remembered where the machine was so he could destroy it or until people tracked it down and wrecked it. Once the machine is wrecked, all the lost memories would return.

I’m thinking the whole event could last about a week (5-6 days). There wouldn’t really be any signs Curtis did it but people would be welcome to try to figure out who exactly created the machine that caused all the amnesia.
