how to study

So my internet usage is really restricted in terms of the download limit and it has been for a while. It's really difficult to do 'extra' things like download books and audio/stream videos and not go over the monthly quota, and it probably won't get better short of me getting more of an income. This isn't going to stop me from studying language but ( Read more... )

Uwah! Why so hard working boi? You're making me look even lazier than I am (quite a feat)!

I am slowly (very, every slowly) devouring a myriad of books on general, political, and war history. Have to resist buying more until I'm done and get more pay checks cashed.

I'm pretty lazy too, don't worry. I like studying language but still have to make myself do it a lot of the time. I'm already behind schedule on my quest to go though everything on the most frequent words in Japanese newspapers. e_e

It really sucks that you have such a limited Internet connection! And like you, I should try to be more active in my Japanese learning... I haven't updated my journal on lang-8 in ages, too, mostly because I never have anything interesting to say there. XD What language(s) are you learning besides Japanese, btw?

I think I mentioned them over on your language journal actually, but at the moment the ones I am both very interested in studying AND have the resources to do so are: Japanese, Spanish, Indonesian, Lojban, Bulgarian, Icelandic. I really should add German to that list seeing as I did it for 3 years at uni but I've been preoccupied with the others. Mandarin would be up there as well but I've postponed it again because reasons. XD There are also others that I could really use the ability to watch videos and download things to study, like Pashto and Igbo.

Oh, lang-8 entries don't have to be particularly interesting. It's all about practice! You can just go ahead and talk about everyday stuff, which is probably the best way to proficiency anyway. One time I did an entry about how a train was late or something like that. XD

Haha, I'm afraid my memory is very weak. XD Wow, the languages you're interested in are really interesting! Any particular reason why you want to learn them, or do you just feel like it?

Yeah, but if the entry is too boring, even I can't muster the energy to write it. XD (I'm very, very lazy.) And I don't like writing very short entries there, for some reason...

Well, I like them all, and there's different factors like, it's got a lot of speakers to talk to/it's easy/it's challenging/it's useful etc. Some of them are just random reasons. like I wanted to study Icelandic because I like the orthography. XD I'm pretty impressionable when it comes to language. I want to learn ones from different parts of the world. There's a quite a few others I'm interested in from the ones I've listed, these are just the top ones. ^^

Writing on lang-8 was always a chore since I wasn't fluent enough to just write what came to me. It can get tiresome looking up different words and expressions so you don't sound really simplistic. Though it's the only way to learn and get better ...
