Edward Elric yawned and rubbed his sleepy eyes. He squinted at the digital clock: it read 7.00am. He didn’t want to wake up so early, but he just couldn’t go back to sleep. What he needed was something to wake him up and get him out of this neither-here-nor-there state of mind.
“Morning Ed,” came a bright cheery voice of the younger Elric as Edward dragged his unwilling feet into the kitchen.
“Morning Al,” Edward yawned. He noticed Alphonse Elric was sipping contentedly at some brown liquid. Maybe that was what he needed to wake him up.
“Al, is that weird brown stuff you’re drinking nice?” Edward inquired.
Alphonse looked strangely at him. “Yes.”
“Can I try some?”
“Sure!” Alphonse pushed the mug of brown liquid over. Edward thought it looked delicious, froth swirling around merrily in the clear glass mug.
Edward took a cautious sip. It tasted delectable. Though it was rather unfamiliar, the flavor was just right, with the right amount of sweetness in it that made him feel all warm inside. He sighed with satisfaction.
Alphonse gazed at him, with a mixture of amusement and puzzlement on his face, watching Edward’s changing expressions unusually intent.
Edward found the brown liquid rather addictive, and took a few more deep sips. “Al, what’s this anyway?”
“Chocolate-,” Alphonse hesitated, eyeing his brother’s expression, eyes sparkling mischievously. A hint of a smile tugged at his bewildered face. “-Milk,”
Edward sputtered, a wide-eyed, shocked look in his face. “What? What did you say this was?!”
“Chocolate Milk.”
That sure did wake Edward up.

freedom_destinyA/N: I was writing an expository essay on "Home" for an English group essay, and decided hey, why not write one for Edward too? He deserves one. So, after much writing and editing, ta-dah!
Sitting on the train, hearing the familiar chugging of the steam engine. Finally, he was headed for home.
Glancing outside the train’s clear glass window, a familiar countryside view sped past: huge areas of green grass, a few trees dotting the otherwise plain landscape, an occasional smoke-emitting cottage here and there, sheep, cows and other farm animals prancing in the pastures, nibbling quietly at the grass, enjoying the slow pace of life. Overhead, white fluffy clouds floated past lazily, and the sun generously spread its ever-golden rays, bringing life and joy to the land below. The cheery light was reflected in the depths of the young man’s bright, golden eyes, the spark of light dancing merrily as he absorbed the surrounding view.
The train slowly but surely pulled to a halting stop. “Risenbul,” a voice crackled over the PA system. The man got up, calmly striding towards the exit with his luggage in tow, perfectly arranging his facial expression so as not to reveal the mix of emotions underneath the unusually calm façade of his. He slid smoothly off the train onto the platform, red cloak fluttering slightly in the cool morning breeze. A gloved hand in his pocket, he looked around the small station as the train went on its way, chugging noisily behind him. Two figures headed towards him, and catching sight of him, surged forwards.
“Edward!” A wedge flew towards him, in which he dodged swiftly. As he praised himself for his quick reaction, he was caught in a tight embrace. His cheeks tinged red at the sudden display of unexpected emotion, but he hugged the blonde haired girl back just the same. “It’s good to see you, Winry,” Edward ruffled the blond haired girl’s hair.
“Nii-san!” Edward looked up, and felt like he was looking into a mirror as he gazed into brown optics, into a face similar to his. Sliding out of Winry’s grasp, Edward walked over to his younger brother, Alphonse. He pulled his younger brother into a tight hug. “I missed you, Alphonse.”
Feelings of unspoken emotion hung heavily in the air. For Edward, a rush of emotions threatened to overtake him; tears threatened to pour out. Childhood memories raced across his mind: the fun times, the laughter and joy he had, all here in this all too familiar landscape. Edward’s face broke into a wide smile. Grinning as if he was a kid again, Edward muttered, “I’m home.”
“I’m home.”
