[Background]
While nobody is too sure when Poland was born, people like to say around 966. That was when Poland’s first recorded ruler converted to Christianity and Poland was ‘baptized’, so to say. For a while, there were mostly battles for territory as Poland tried to get on its feet. It’s not until 1382 that Poland's history starts to pick up. Ten year old Jadwiga has the Polish crown passed down to her. Two years later, at age twelve, she marries Lithuania’s Duke Jagiello. Jagiello converts to Christianity and an alliance between Lithuania and Poland begins. In 1410, Poland and Lithuania kick the Teutonic Knights' asses (which was totally awesome) and in 1569, Poland and Lithuania become one and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth is born.
During this Commonwealth, Poland sees a lot of glory as he works on farms (or makes Liet work as he lays around and eats anyway) and sells the rye, bringing in a lot of money as he also battles and wins battle after battle. The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was extremely powerful and some would argue the biggest nation in Europe at one point in time. It had an amazing amount of religious freedom for the time and even made a lot of developments in military and medicine science that wouldn't be rediscovered until the 20th century. Its government was actually marveled at by a lot of people around Europe. It’s all pretty amazing and easy to see why Poland seems to have so much confidence. I mean, he took over Moscow for two years.
Currently, in 1610, Poland is fighting battle after battle, but miraculously winning most of them. Of course, this glory doesn't last forever and in 1795, he's taken right off the map thanks to the three partitions by Russia, Prussia, and Austria. He comes back in 1918, but World War II happens and well, let's just say things don't go well until 1989. Poland doesn't know any of this, of course :3
[Personality]
It should be said that Poland during the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth is very different from Poland during modern-times. While it’s been shown later on that Poland has matured some (he's not as selfish and seems to actually think about other people), it’s all due to having gone through some tough times. None of those times have happened to this Poland. He doesn’t even know they happen.
When you first meet him, you see a shy little blond. He won’t talk much and you’ll wonder why this guy is apparently so powerful if he has such anxiety issues with strangers. Until that is, you see his real personality once he gets used to you. Underneath that shy and quiet exterior is a selfish, impulsive person who wants you to talk like him, live like him, and do anything he says. He’ll make you do his work if he can get you to do it and he won’t take anything you say seriously. He probably won’t take anything seriously. There’s people to do that for him after all. Good news is, if he likes you enough and actually trusts you, you tell him he’s being an asshole, he might just listen to you and cut back a little. If you’re not one of those people, he won’t pay you any mind. You just don’t see his worth or something as equally stupid.
Poland also has a lot of pride and self-confidence. If you do or say something against him, he will definitely stand up against you. He might hide behind someone he trusts or somewhere else soon after, but he’ll still stand up for himself. He doesn't let himself be pushed around.
He’s pretty slow too. After all, in one strip of the Hetalia web comic, it was shown Poland didn’t even know how to screw in a light bulb by himself. While he’s slow, he's not entirely stupid. I mean, okay, he wont figure out how to screw a light bulb in and will think you need two people to do it, but don't completely count the guy out.
Being set in the 1600’s and Poland having no idea of all the horrible things that will happen to him, he will probably laugh at you and call you crazy if you tell him how he’ll fall and that Germany will one day invade Poland. He’ll laugh at the idea of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth falling apart. How could that happen? It’s the best nation in the world after all! Tons better than any others. Or so he thinks.
[Specialties/Abilities]
He's a country and a super nation right now. He's stronger than your average human needless to say. Although he's a super nation right now, he can't compare to somebody like America's super strength.
[Affection]
Poland is pretty shy around most people and he'll view you as a lackey before he views you as a friend. Forget datingcourting this guy. He's way too selfish and besides, he isn't too interested in women for some reason and ew, he's a man, why would he date other men?! Seriously, you're only going to get a pretty lame friendship out of this guy. Kisses and hugs are just too personal. I wouldn't try it.
[Fighting]
Go ahead and fight him! Poland is good at fighting, but only with a sword and on horseback. If you want a fight with him, message me so we can work something out. He's good at fighting, but not the best, so let's figure out how he'd do against your character.
[Other Permissions]
If you want to read his mind, ask me about it first. I'm pretty okay with it, but there's just some things about that strange little mind of his the world isn't ready to know yet.
[Other Facts]
-He's Catholic and pretty dedicated to his religion. In other words, he's a conservative little guy.
-Oh and he speaks like a valley girl. Historical accuracy? What's that?
